Bloomington, Ind.— After years of successful conferences, webinars, and other events, today marks the beginning of a new professional organization aimed at connecting professionals across the country to continue the conversations around improving student financial wellness. The Higher Education Financial Wellness Alliance (HEFWA) has launched, with efforts targeted at scaling effective interventions to improve student financial decision making, reducing the impact of student loan debt on students' lives and decreasing the likelihood that finances prevent a student from reaching graduation.
The Alliance, which is growing out of the Higher Education Financial Wellness Summit, is responding to institutions' request for continued opportunities to advance programs that are targeted at improving student financial literacy and wellness. The Summit, which has doubled in size over six years, attracted representatives from 175 institutions and about 340 attendees in 2019. In July 2020, the University of Nebraska Lincoln will host the next Higher Education Financial Wellness Summit.
The Alliance will provide online and in-person programming to train staff, a coaching program to assist with the development of on-campus financial wellness initiatives and other support services to assist in the development of national best practices related to financial wellness. Benefits of becoming a HEFWA member include (but are not limited to):
Discounted registration rates to attend the HEFW Summit.
Access to members-only webinars and programming opportunities.
Access to members-only new initiatives, including the Alliance Coaching Experience.
First access to regional programming experiences.
Posting access to the HEFWA Career Board.
