2022 Recap

Overview

The 2022 HEFWA Summit took place from July 17-19, 2022 at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. It was the first time since 2019 the HEFWA community was able to get together in-person since the start of the COVID Pandemic. The Summit was attended by a total of about 230, with around 170 in-person and 60 online.

Sessions

The 2022 Summit featured 28 breakout sessions and 3 Pre-Summit workshops across the 3 days event. The topics of the sessions included:

getting a financial wellness program off the ground
research on the current state of student financial wellness since the beginning of COVID
the latest in peer coaching methods
marketing a financial wellness program to gain student attendance

Most of the sessions from the Summit were delivered to in-person attendees as well as virtual attendees from institutions across the world.

Keynotes

The 2022 Summit was fortunate to have three phenomenal keynote speakers from different areas of the financial wellness world:

Robert Kelchen - University of Tennessee, Knoxville professor of higher education and the head of the department of educational leadership and policy studies. His talk focused on the future of higher education in a post-COVID world.
Wendy De La Rosa - University of Pennsylvania assistant professor of marketing. Her talk focused on the psychology of financial decision-making and how we can help our students navigate this challenging area.
Richard Cordray - Federal Student Aid COO. His talk focused on the commitment to financial wellness at the federal level through the various initiatives implemented.

Survey

For the first time, the Survey of Financial Wellness Programs was available for attendees to fill out, live, at the Summit. Representatives from also 40 institutions took part in the live data-gathering sessions. If you were unable to attend one of the sessions, please feel free to fill out the survey on your own right now by following the link on this page. HEFWA will be making the results of the survey available in the upcoming months.
